Technological Services in Fire Protection

Technological Services in Fire Protection

Testing, assessment, and technical justification in accordance with regulations or equivalent criteria

AFITI’s Technological Services Department carries out activities focused on the characterization of fire protection systems through testing, technical analysis, and document verification. Our services help validate fire performance, demonstrate compliance with regulatory requirements, and assess specific performance aspects—both under established standards and in the absence of applicable ones. These services are intended for manufacturers, designers, project managers, and inspection bodies.

Custom Ad-Hoc Fire Testing
Performance verification in the absence of specific standards

We carry out non-standardized tests specifically designed for products or technical solutions that lack an applicable regulation. These tests evaluate technical suitability for the intended use, considering limit conditions or unique configurations. Testing methodologies are defined based on scientific criteria, technical expertise, and the client’s functional goals. These tests are especially useful in R&D processes, pre-certification validation, or technical assessments for singular applications.

Technical Suitability Assessment (ETI)
Recognition under the Spanish Fire Protection Regulation (RIPCI)

After years of close collaboration, AFITI has been recognized by the
Eduardo Torroja Institute for Construction Science as a collaborating entity
for activities related to the technical evaluation of non-traditional or
innovative fire protection products, which lack specific standards and pose
potential risks, in accordance with Article 5.3 of the Fire Protection
Installations Regulation (RIPCI).

Additionally, since January 2025, FINCO (Fire, Innovation and Construction)
has become AFITI’s CSIC-associated R&D&I Unit. Through this unit, AFITI
collaborates with the Eduardo Torroja Institute on a wide range of topics
related to fire safety and construction.

Recognition under the Spanish Building Code (CTE)

AFITI is officially recognized by the Directorate-General for Architecture,
Housing and Land of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda to
issue Technical Suitability Assessments (ETIs) for fire curtains. These ETIs
serve as a valid technical basis to justify compliance with the basic
requirements of the Spanish Building Code (CTE) and are used by manufacturers,
designers, and technical control bodies.
