AFITI is accredited to conduct fire tests under UL 263 and ASTM E119 standards

New accreditation in fire resistance

The Association for the Promotion of Research and Technology in Fire Safety
(AFITI) has recently obtained accreditation to conduct fire tests in accordance
with UL 263 and ASTM E119 standards. This new accreditation expands AFITI’s
capability to assess the fire resistance of materials and construction systems
according to internationally recognized standards.

What are UL 263 and ASTM E119 standards?

The UL 263 standard, also known as “Fire Tests of Building
Construction and Materials,” is a standard from Underwriters Laboratories
that establishes methods for evaluating the fire resistance of construction
elements. Meanwhile, the ASTM E119 standard, titled “Standard Test Methods
for Fire Tests of Building Construction and Materials,” provides test
methods to determine the fire resistance of building materials and components.
Both standards are essential in the construction industry to ensure safety and structural
integrity in fire situations.

A benchmark in fire safety

Since its founding in 1987, AFITI has been a benchmark in the field of fire
safety in Spain. With more than 30 years of accreditation by the National
Accreditation Entity (ENAC), the association has demonstrated a constant
commitment to excellence in its services. Obtaining this new accreditation
reinforces its position as a leading laboratory in fire resistance testing.

Specialized fire resistance services

AFITI’s fire resistance laboratory is dedicated to determining the time
during which a construction element can maintain its essential functions—such
as load-bearing capacity, integrity, and thermal insulation—when exposed to
specific pressure and temperature conditions. In addition to standardized
tests, the laboratory designs and executes specific protocols tailored to the
particular needs of its clients, covering a wide range of elements, from
load-bearing structures to service installations and electrical systems.

Advantages of the new accreditation

With the incorporation of UL 263 and ASTM E119 standards into its service
portfolio, AFITI offers its clients the possibility to certify their products
and systems according to international standards, facilitating their access to
global markets and ensuring compliance with the most demanding fire safety
regulations.
