AFITI, Pioneer as a Fire Safety Testing Laboratory, Over 30 Years with ENAC Accreditation

The Spanish Association for the Promotion of Research and Fire Safety Technology “AFITI”, established in accordance with Law 191/1964 since its founding on March 27, 1987, reaffirms its prominent position in the field of fire safety with almost 32 years of accreditation by the National Accreditation Entity (ENAC) as a fire safety testing laboratory.

Since its inception, AFITI has played a crucial role in managing the Fire Testing and Research Center LICOF, a laboratory originally created at CSIC in 1975 and later transferred in 1985 to the Ministry of Industry. Over the years, the association has evolved to offer a complete range of services, becoming a reference in Spain in the area of fire behavior testing of systems, products, and construction elements.

The LICOF laboratories, covering both passive and active fire protection, represent just one facet of the robust service system offered by AFITI. In addition to these laboratories, the association is supported by its Certification and Inspection Department and the Technological Services Department. This expanded structure allows AFITI to offer a complete range of services, including inspection activities, certification, training, and support to public and private entities. In this way, the organization positions itself as a key player in the field of safety and technology, covering various dimensions to meet the varied needs of its clients.

AFITI, already recognized as a Notified Body approved by the European Commission (system 3) for obtaining CE marking of construction elements and materials in compliance with Construction Products Regulation No. 305/2011, has accumulated over the years a series of accreditations and recognitions that support its commitment to quality and safety in the field of fire behavior testing.
