Tests
Laboratory of fire resistance
The task of the Fire Resistance Laboratory is to determine the time during which a complete construction element is able to maintain its function —loadbearing capacity, integrity, thermal insulation, or leakproofness— when subjected to standardized or protocol pressure and temperature conditions.
In the field of civil construction, the test allows obtaining the fire resistance classification (Euroclass) of construction elements in accordance with RD 842/2013, which approves the classification of building products and elements based on their reaction and resistance to fire properties.
In the field of shipbuilding, the test enables obtaining the fire resistance classification as defined in the International Code for the Application of Fire Test Procedures (FTP or PEF Code) of the Maritime Safety Committee (IMO). It also makes it possible to determine the resistance of railway vehicle fire barriers.
AFITI is accredited by the National Accreditation Entity (ENAC) and recognized by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to perform tests according to a wide range of standards such as EN 1363, EN 1364 and EN 1634. This accreditation allows clients to demonstrate compliance with the Spanish Technical Building Code (CTE, RD 314/2006) and the Fire Safety Regulation for Industrial Establishments (RSCIEI, RD 2267/2004).
Moreover, AFITI is recognized by various international organizations, allowing entry into the global market.
In addition to standardized tests included in its scope of accreditation, the AFITI Fire Resistance Laboratory designs and performs customized test protocols tailored to the specific requirements of each client.
